What makes Goodz so good?

Everyone loves a bit of emceeing. There's fast emceeing, there's smooth emceeing, there's overweight emceeing. Each emcee has got a funny little voice they use to shout and mumble over drums and beeps. It's how the whole thing works.

Obviously, certain styles strike you as more tasty than others. You're partial to a bit of Kano, you dabble in some Eksman of a weekend. You don your jogging sneakers and pop the earphones in ready for some Burro Banton. Thats the way the world works. Emcees narrate and shout, guiding us through the foggy passages. We just nod along gratefully.

When it's all finished there will be a few emcees you remember more vividly. Rocking in your chair, dribbling, you'll let your crumbling noggin drift back to the good old days. I'm fairly sure my own senile wanderings will take me directly to the Goodzman.

Durrty Goodz is basically the best around. His flow is like if they could train scorpions to talk in tongues. He is a wizard made of ice. His style is precise and mathematical with the perfect yardsman lilt; he swaggers on the beat eating bass like he's half starving.

It was obvious really. If you gave birth to 20,000 kids in 1980 and raised them all on dancehall, hip hop, jungle and eventually garage - you would expect to get one excellent emcee. Goodz is that guy. It was obviously going to happen. It's just a probability game.

Oh, and by the way, Goodz is coming to sing at our dance next week.

Yeah. You're right James. I'll give you that. Kano is absolutely excellent. Of all the excellent people out there, he's one of the most excellent. He really is excellently excellent. But Doogz is better.

oh my days, durrty goodz all day long...where does he get the energy, he doesnt breathe for the first five minutes of the igrime ting and when he does at 5.43 he switches into that wicked sing song style... one of the top five flows in the game doogz? dont undersell yourself, top boy for sure!

i've thought this about goodz since the first time i heard him. his flow is impeccable & there's not one bar that's off. i'd listened to this recording on his myspace a few weeks ago & am glad that's it getting some recognition these days. the man runs tings.

Kano's fallen off as of late, the only guy really challenging Doogz at the moment is Ghetto. Doogz is in a small amount of MCs, arguably including D Double, Trim and Diz (despite his more marketable turn) who've been the top guys from day one. Doogz is the blueprint for a grime MC.

Goodz is the best MC overall to come out of the Grime scene.

He is on a next level compared to Ghetto and Kano.

He's always been good and keeps getting better.

It's good to see that he's finally starting to get his recognition as he's the best thing out of the UK since Slick Rick.

In my opinion Goodz is the best MC in the UK. He doesn't release half baked CD's like other MC's, every line on every verse is bang on. Its different to other mix tapes, a lot of thought has gone into tunes and verses. Listen to the Axiom EP, it is another level. There are only a few UK artists that have ever come close to that CD, Devlin-Tales from the Crypt, Kano-Home Sweet Home to name two.

His lyrics are as structured as Ghetto, but less of assault on the ear drum. Myself personally I can only listen to Ghetto for around 15 mins, where I find myself searching for Goodz music on the net on a regular basis.

Its just a shame we don't hear more from him, it seems he doesn't have the work rate of Kano & Ghetto, but there may be other reasons? I for one I'm willing to wait longer for someone like Goodz to release a CD that is as good as it can be.

I have heard many times over the last 8 years, no other MC makes me sit in silence waiting for the next line. I hope we don’t have to wait for too long for “Born Blessed”

Kano ain't all that. As noted he's had some hard flops.

Will/Goodz/Trimbal/Jammer/Dot Rotten -

All more original, better emcees. Possibly even Riko and Skepta have bars that still age better than most Kano.
