The Heatwave Chart - July 2008

the-heatwave-chart-july-2008-image01 The Mr Vegas big tune train rolls on in an African dancehall style - when I dropped Daggering at Big Chill House last week this guy came up and was going on about how much it sounded like Fela Kuti.

Meanwhile the UK's Crazy Cousins cross the Atlantic the other way with their soca-inflected funky house remix of the massive and saucy Kyla anthem Do You Mind and Mavado stays firmly on Jamaica with his celebration of Asafa Powell's record-breaking sprinting.

My two favourite reggae singers - though many are of the opinion that what Sizzla does isn't exactly singing, and maybe it's a bit too early to elevate Tarrus Riley to that status - team up for a piece of hip hop-flavoured pensiveness. I'm loving Tinchy Stryder's vocal on The Ting Tings' That's Not My Name as well - it really makes Dizzee Rascal's cover version look all the more ridiculous.
