About Us
"London's premier purveyors of dancehall" Metro
Founded by Gabriel Myddelton in 2003, The Heatwave started life as a monthly club night before morphing into a multi-armed musical machine:
Club DJs
"Amazing party DJs. I'm a big fan" Rob Da Bank
Playing every week around the UK, Europe and beyond, The Heatwave's hyped up DJ sets are guaranteed to get any crowd of people down and dirty. Host MC Rubi Dan calls it the bashment workout, but it's much more fun than hitting the gym!
Radio and residencies
"The Heatwave have been impressing and dazzling large, happy audiences with their energy and innovation" The Guardian
Heatwave residencies include a fortnightly radio show on London's number one pirate station, Rinse FM and the weekly dancehall night Hot Wuk at Big Chill House. They are regulars at clubs like Fabric, Bar Rumba and Cargo and at festivals liek Secret Garden Party, Big Chill and Bestival.
Producers
"Jubilant homegrown dancehall you need in your life" FACT
The Heatwave's debut production, the Piano riddim, hit the streets in 2008 featuring vocals from Warrior Queen, Riko and Rubi Dan.
New riddims featuring the likes of YT, Natalie Storm and Serocee are due for release in 2009 along with remixes for Jammer & Badness, Mavado and Horace Andy.
Compilations and journalism
"As much a history lesson as a compilation, An England Story soundtracks the collision of Caribbean and English cultures" Q
The Heatwave conceived and curated the critically acclaimed compilation An England Story, which came out on Soul Jazz Records in 2008. The double album traces the development of Jamaican-influenced MCing in the UK, covering dancehall, jungle, hip hop, garage and grime.
The Heatwave blog is known as a reliable source of up to the time music and good writing, and Gabriel Heatwave is a regular contributor to magazines such as FACT, Shook, Its Alot and Woofah.
Past projects
"The Heatwave have been at the forefront of dancehall in London since they burst onto the scene in 2003" Time Out
The Heatwave's widely acclaimed dancehall remixes of tracks like Trick Me (Kelis) and Crazy (Gnarls Barkley) have been rinsed by everyone from David Rodigan and Chris Goldfinger to Sinden and DJ Yoda, making the Punchline imprint trusted and loved by DJs and fans alike.
Other past Heatwave projects include the Scandal Bag label - responsible for DJ C & Quality Diamond's ragga jungle anthem Let It Billie - and the Caribbean/Latino soundclash Heatwave vs Mas Fuego. This monthly night at Rhythm Factory did much to pioneer the reggaeton sound in London back in 2005/06.
